Child and Youth Counsellor (B.A., CYC)
Brief info
Chelsea joined the team in 2022 as the full-time Child and Youth Counsellor (B.A., CYC). She fell in love with Nova’s Ark in 2021 as she was completing a placement throughout her degree in Child and Youth Care (CYC) at Toronto Metropolitan University. She was immediately drawn to Nova’s Ark’s ability to provide care for a variety of people in a way that intersects with her practice style and CYC methodologies.
Chelsea’s role allows for the implementation and execution of individualized program plans from a relational and strengths-based approach. Her approach echoes the “follow the child” philosophy, she will meet all participants where they are at and work to support them in reaching their goals. To support this, she uses a variety of therapeutic models based on the participant, including play-based, nature-based, and mindfulness interventions in group and individual counselling sessions. She utilizes the Zones of Regulation to further our participant’s social thinking and self-regulation skills while collaborating with them to find strategies that work for the young person. She is passionate about building transferable classroom skills for the younger participants through Academics, to support their success at school. Currently, Chelsea is continuing her education by completing her Master of Arts in Child and Youth Care at Toronto Metropolitan University, specializing in the therapeutic stream and has her undergraduate degree in Child and Youth Care.
