Animal Care

Provide for basic care for a variety of small animals
Daily cleaning practices of enclosures
Diet preparation and education on feeding of animals
Practise time management skills
Performance of repetitive tasks with efficiency
Independent completion of tasks with attention to details
Professional skill development applicable to all weather conditions
Anticipate and solve problems in a real-life setting
Daily one-to-one check-ins with Supervisor

Participant Mentorship

Support participants of varied abilities and ages while working alongside an interprofessional team mentor
Gain knowledge of Zones of Regulation
Daily facilitated pre-planning and debrief meetings to advocate and discuss ethical topics
Professional skill development in non-traditional setting
Experience a program that utilizes therapy animals to support well-being and education
Develop respectful relationships with participants
Assess and respond to the strengths and needs of participants to meet varied abilities
Apply communication and teamwork within interprofessional group to support individuals’ goals
Assisting to modify and accommodate various learning styles and activities based participants' individualized needs alongside interprofessional mentor

Nova’s Ark is special to our whole family. When Daniel first started here, he could only speak one-word sentences. Now, he can talk your ear off and is very independent. Daniel being at Nova’s Ark takes a lot of pressure off of our family because we know he is safe, happy and learning. No matter the weather or if he is tired, Daniel doesn’t want to miss a day.
