Leaves, leaves and more leaves! Last week we were

Leaves, leaves and more leaves! Last week we were busy helping out around our unique facility by raking lots of leaves with tons of teamwork. We made it extra fun by bringing them down to “The Pit” in our trailer. We did a risk assessment before stepping in to ensure optimal safety and had a blast.

Did you know that 22 wheelbarrows of leaves fit into the trailer? Thank you so much to the Durham Attack Crimson U13 volleyball team. A ton of wheelbarrows full of raked leaves were successfully delivered down to “The Pit” thanks to your teamwork. With a mix of hard work and fun, it was a truly wonderful day. Thank you for being a part of our Nova’s Ark community @durhamattackcrimsonu13 !

We're staying warm! While discussing different ways to keep cozy during the cold weather, we're enjoying forest yoga, singing songs around the "campfire" and learning how animals adapt. We are ready for the chill!

Check out these learning opportunities during "Out of the Box"! Some of our older participants are taking part in "Paw Club". Here we create enrichment opportunities, clean-ups and fine-tuning of the wolf grounds for our friends, Nikita and Skye. We're also continuing to work on our "Helping Hands" and have all been enjoying a variety of sensory experiences. Another terrific week of "Out of the Box" is well underway!

We have been celebrating World Kindness Week! We've connected about ways to be kind to those around us, ourselves and our unique facility. From hanging up bird feeders for our forest friends to handing out compliments, it has been lovely. What a wonderful week full of kindness that we will continue to practice!

Lest We Forget. We have also been focusing on Remembrance Day this week. We've discussed how we can make the world a better place by supporting each other and being kind to all. Together, we then recreated Flanders Fields on our front lawn while connecting about the meaning of the poppy, showing respect and sharing stories. We remember.

Winter prep is here and our Running of the Donkeys is complete! Today we all had an amazing time lining up to cheer on our pony paddock friends as they headed to their winter home. Terrific teamwork everyone!

The pumpkin extravaganza continues! We have been practicing our hammering, tossing and rolling skills with them!

Thank you so much to everyone who continues to drop off pumpkins. We will be accepting them until this Friday, November 10th at 2:30 p.m. After that, our pumpkin patch will be full! We are so appreciative of everyone thinking of us at Nova‘s Ark. More fun awaits!

101 uses for a pumpkin! From smashing them to pumpkin art to bringing them to our friends in the pony paddock, we are having a blast. Our wolves, foxes and some of our feathered friends are also so looking forward to this orange enrichment. Thank you to all who have kindly donated a pumpkin to us so far.

We still have a ton to put to great use! Any suggestions for our ongoing pumpkin adventures this week?

Hooray! Thank you so much to Lorraine and Alisson from @preschoolcanadapickering for the marvelous pumpkin drop-off once again this year. Yesterday, they held their annual Pumpkin Parade where a ton of amazing pumpkins were displayed on their playground to be admired. It was so much fun unloading the pumpkins today and checking out all of the cool designs. We can't wait to put them to terrific use as enrichment for our animal ambassadors and enjoyment for our participants. Thank you again for thinking of us at Nova's Ark. We can't wait to continue the tradition next year!

Our week has been filled with learning about migration! We've "flown" in a V, compared the number of kilometers a goose flies to our own steps and created beautiful butterflies. What amazing discussions and questions we had throughout the whole week about migration!

Our week has been off to such a wonderful start! Yesterday, we all began our discussions on migration and Team One worked on an awesome Time Capsule. We are looking forward to many more learning opportunities this week!
