The Pumpkin Extravaganza! Our teams have had such a blast putting pumpkins to use is so many ways. We’ve practiced using hammer and nails, fed them to our animal ambassadors and smashed them for some of forest friends to enjoy. Thank you so much to our Nova‘s Ark community for donating so many pumpkins of different shapes, sizes and colours. Until next year!

Our winter prep continues! Today our teams helped our front paddock pals head to their winter home as we all lined up on the driveway to cheer them on during “The Running of the Donkeys”!

This year’s herd ran so fast that they were too quick to catch a group photo! So, we’ve also included some pictures of the last couple of years “Running of the Donkeys” in the fall!

We’re so lucky to have had the Durham Attack Crimson U14 team come out to volunteer with us! In the beautiful sunshine, this hardworking crew raked up lots and lots of leaves. The Great Guinea Pig Migration is complete and fall is definitely here! A job well done to our teams who helped bring our guinea pig pals into their warm space yesterday. Our animal care team performed a health check, while our participants ensured each furry friend was safe and happy during their transport inside. Our 80 guinea pigs are loving the cozy atmosphere. Winter is not far behind!

Lest We Forget, our teams have been learning all about Remembrance Day and why we honour it. We have had a special focus on Indigenous Veterans Day, the Purple Poppy to honour animal heroes and a recreation of Flanders Fields. Thank you to our participants for the huge amounts of respect while we all take the time to listen, learn and reflect.

Team Two made the first campfire of the season! With safety skills, teamwork and persistence, we had a fantastic fire. There was even a chance to pop some popcorn! So many fun ways to learn in “Out of the Box”!

Leaves, leaves and more leaves! We’re making the most out of the beauty of fall by creating leaf crowns, jumping in huge leaf piles and admiring the gorgeous colours. Of course, we have many amazing helpers to rake them up and bring full wheelbarrows of leaves down to the pit. More fall adventures await!

Shoutout to the U12 Durham Rebells Tano volleyball team for beginning our Pumpkin Extravaganza donations! Over the weekend, this wonderful team brought in their pumpkins to contribute to our programming and animal ambassador enrichment. Thank you for being so lovely and making a big difference @durhamrebelstano !

Thank you to the U12 Dynamite and U16 Crush Durham Attack Volleyball teams for volunteering with us over the weekend! In the rain and shine, both teams were a huge help in getting us ready for the colder months ahead by raking leaves and putting out fresh mulch. Your time commitment, hard work and positive energy have helped us greatly. Thank you for taking the time to learn, listen and make a difference @durham_attack_dynamite and @durhamattackcrush !

It is “Take Me Outside Week”! At Nova’s Ark, we love being outdoors. There are endless opportunities to learn, explore, and connect with nature. Check out some of our outdoor fun from this week so far, including enjoying huge leaf piles, learning about migration, and making the most of this beautiful weather. We can’t wait for more outdoor excitement as the weather changes!

Another thank you to the Pickering Casino Resort PROUD Team for coming out to volunteer again! What an amazing year it has been so far together! From raking leaves to tidying up bushes, these incredible individuals were busy and so enthusiastic about all of the activities going on for our participants. The ongoing commitment of the PROUD Team is truly outstanding. We can’t wait to see you next month for more fall adventures!

We can’t thank the hardworking Clark family enough for completing their 5th Annual Fundraising Raffle for us at Nova’s Ark! In addition to family and friends donating all prizes for the event, 100% of donations came directly to Nova’s Ark. It was a total labour of love which began in July and ended in October. Thank you once again, Alex, Cheryl, Drew and Abbey for all of your efforts and to all those who participated. You have all truly made a difference!
